I go by the name Br00klyn James. Br00klyn was a nickname given to me by my cousins. Whenever I'd be introduced to someone new, they'd never believe I was from the West Coast. They'd always think I was from the East. Jokingly, my cousins started calling me Br00klyn and it just kinda stuck. To satisfy the request for a last name, I took inspiration from Dave Chapelle's infamous Rick James skit and thus Br00k James, or Br00klyn James, was born.2. WHERE ARE YOU FROM/WHAT CITY YOU REP?
I was raised in Southern California and have lived here all of my life.3. HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN DOING MUSIC?
I started singing at the age of 4, at church, and I haven't stopped singing since.4. WHAT/WHO INSPIRED YOU ?
I have always loved music and found it easy to replicate sounds and tones. As a young child, I can remember sitting around with my mom and dad and listening to Motown Records. I would pretend I was a Supreme (Diana Ross of course). As I grew older, singers who inspired me were Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey-Cannon, Stevie Wonder, Kelly Price, Donny Hathaway, Leann Rimes, and India Arie to name a few.5. WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY WORKING ON AT THE MOMENT?
I have been working with Producer Damone Arnold of Dreemi Productions and plan to release my first single with Dreemi later this summer. We have come up with some great material and are still in the process of deciding which song we want to drop first.6. DO YOU HAVE ANY UPCOMING SHOWS/EVENTS YOU WANNA TELL THE PUBLIC ABOUT?
Right now, I am focusing on completing songs. Stay tuned because in the next couple of months I am gonna be kicking off a promotional tour.7. HOW MANY HOURS A WEEK WOULD YOU SAY YOU RECORD IN THE STUDIO?
I devote at least two hours a day to writing and perfecting songs. Recording usually goes pretty quickly because I've spent so much time learning my songs before hand.8. WHATS THE FIRST THING THAT POPS IN YOUR HEAD BEFORE YOU PERFORM FOR THE PUBLIC?
When I perform, I get a feeling of euphoria. I really love the energy from a crowd that is cheering me on and it makes me want to give them a performance that matches their expectations. I always feel really blessed to have an audience.9. DO YOU HAVE A ALTER EGO? IF SO HOW DIFFERENT IS IT FROM THE REAL YOU?
I wouldn't call it an alter ego, but I am actually very shy. I really don't feel the need to be the center of attention, but somehow it just comes to me. It's funny because, when I'm on stage I love it, but when the show's over, you'll probably find me somewhere in a corner reading a book.10. WHAT DO YOU ENJOY ABOUT BEING A ARTIST?
I enjoy making music that touches others and encourages them or simply makes them feel. Sometimes it may make them feel happy. Sometimes they may feel a little somber. I believe that my job as an artist is to create material that causes my listener to learn more about themselves and the people around them11. IS THERE ANYTHING YOU DISLIKE ABOUT BEING A ARTIST?
I have been around people who are willing to mistreat and hurt others to accomplish certain goals. Unfortunately, there are lots of ruthless people in the music industry. I always ask for discernment to recognize them before they get to me.12. WHAT IS YOUR ALL-TIME GOAL IN LIFE?
My ALL-TIME goal in life???? I believe that ultimately, I AM A TEACHER. So, no matter what the vehicle, I will always desire to teach, whether through singing, speaking, writing, mentoring, etc. 13. WHAT DO YOU ENJOY DOING WHEN YOUR NOT IN THE PUBLIC EYE?
When I am not in the public eye, I devote most of my time and energy to my son. We play games, ride bikes, visit amusement parks, read books...we simply spend QUALITY time together. He's growing up so fast and I don't want to miss out on these precious years.14. IF YOU WERE TO DIE TODAY WOULD YOU BE SATISFIED WITH YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS?

I GOT MY STAGE NAME “DA KID” SANTIAGO TWO DIFFERENT WAYS. I WAS GOING BY MY LAST NAME SANTIAGO FOR A LONG TIME OUT HERE IN PHILLY. THEN I MOVED TO NYC FOR MY MUSIC AND EVERYTIME SOMEONE WOULD LISTEN TO MY SONGS THEY BE LIKE “THAT KID IS ALRIGHT”. MY FRIEND AT THE TIME WAS PUTTING OUT A BUNCH OF MIXTAPES AND FEATURED ONE OF MY SONGS ON IT, AND LISTED ME AS “DA KID” SANTIAGO. IT JUST STUCK AND NOW I LIKE IT TOO MUCH TO CHANGE IT. LOL

I GOT MY INITIAL INSPRIATION FROM 2PAC. AS I KEPT LISTENING TO HIP HOP I JUST FELL IN LOVE WITH HOW HONEST AND RAW YOU CAN BE ON YOUR SONGS. SO NOW YOU COULD SAY MY INSPRIATION IS MY MOOD FOR THAT DAY OR TIME PERIOD.

I HAVE A FEW DIFFERENT PROJECTS ON DECK AT THE MOMENT. THE FIRST BEING MY INDEPENDENT RECORD LABEL “WHITE WAVE MUSIK”. BEEN TRYING TO LOCATE ARTIST I FEEL WILL MESH WELL WITH THE VIBE I’M TRYING TO CREATE. THE OTHER PROJECT IS MY MIXTAPE “WAR COURAGE KINGSHIP” SET TO BE RELEASED IN AUGUST ON WHITE WAVE MUSIK.

I’M CURRENTLY IN THE STUDIO RECORDING DIFFERENT POTENTIAL TRACKS FOR MY MIXTAPE ABOUT 2-3 DAYS A WEEK FOR ABOUT 8 HOURS EACH DAY. IT’S A HUSTLE AND A GRIND SO I TREATED IT LIKE ONE.

THE BEST THING ABOUT BEING AN ARTIST TO ME IS BEING ABLE TO EXPRESS MYSELF. WHEN I’M BEHIND THE MIC OR WRITING I DON’T CARE IF PEOPLE ARE GOING TO LIKE IT-TO A CERTAIN EXTENT. SO FAR I HAVE ENJOYED EVERY ASPECT OF BEING A HIP HOP ARTIST. FROM THE BATTLES, BEEFS AND MUSIC I HAVE BEEN BLESSED TO MAKE BOTH WITH OTHER ARTIST AND BY MYSELF. THIS IS THE LIFE I CHOSE SO I LOVE IT!

MAKING MY RECORD LABEL SUCCESSFUL IS MY ALL-TIME GOAL. BEING ABLE TO SELL 100,000 COPIES AS AN INDEPENDENT RECORD LABEL AND HAVING PEOPLE KNOW WHO WE ARE WOULD BE THE GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT.

I’M A HOME BODY. I LIKE TO STAY HOME AND JUST CHILL WATCHING NETFLIX ON THE PS3, WRITING NEW MUSIC THEN JUST HITTING UP THE STUDIO. THAT’S MY PERFECT DAY IN A NUT SHELL.

I attended several schools in grade school and high school. I graduated from William Penn High School in Philadelphia, PA. I also attend West Chester University and expect to graduate May 2011 with a BA in Communication Studies.

I look up to my Grandmother because she is a great, strong, independent woman. She showed me how to stay strong through all of life’s trials and tribulations.

I would be an entertainer because I love to sing, act, dance, and take pictures.

If I could choose any profession besides my singing career I would be a entertainment publicist because I love to network and keeping up with the media and news and love the entertainment industry. I would also be an author and songwriter.

My main focus is my education, music, and family.

I have been singing since I was 5 years old, writing sings since I was 13, and modeling since June 2010.
8. WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO WANNA START SINGING?
My mother inspired me to want to become a singer. Also a lot of music we used to listen to in my home inspired me as well. Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Aaliyah, Girl Groups form the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s were just some of the music we listened to. I also am inspired by rock and roll and life experiences.

Yes, I can write songs, model, act, and dance.
10. WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN THE NEXT 5 YEARS?
I see myself recording a sophomore album on a major record label.

Yes, I performed in front of big time record producers.

Just all the good feedback i always got from rapping. I use to always joke around about rapping and rapped at the lunch table at school. About 2 years ago i found out that i was going to be having a son so that made me rethink a lot of things in my life and get a game plan together.

Basketball is my favorite sport to play. I don't get a lot of time to play it as much but i try to fit it in!!
